My great-great grandfather Henry Bishop emigrated to Melbourne, Victoria, in 1860-61 from his home in Stamford, Lincolnshire. He was in his early twenties, and left behind him his widowed mother Eliza Gilbert Bishop, his father William having died in September 1859.
Henry's uncle, Joseph Bishop, was an ironmonger and merchant in Melbourne, and being childless and widowed himself, he had written to Henry with the offer of a job and home with him in Melbourne.
Henry took with him to Melbourne a small photograph album with a collection of some of his friends and family he was leaving behind in Stamford, and began to add to the collection once he arrived in Victoria and began to make more friends and acquaintances.
The following blog is simply Henry's album, starting on page one and continuing through to the very last page.I have included the reverse of the photo with the photographer's identifying mark as this information is crucial for dating purposes.
