IDENTITY: Unknown. This woman is very similar in looks to Fanny Jane Smith...she is a little fuller in the face. I spent years being certain that is was Fanny, but the difference in facial fullness has left me unsure again. Their ears are identical..if this is not Fanny then perhaps it is her sister, Rebecca Elizabeth Smith, who also came out to Melbourne from Somerset during the 1860s. Rebecca was baptised in Burley, Rutlandshire, on December 26, 1837, and so was only a year older than Fanny. She married a widower, Dr. William Farrage,(Fanny's doctor)in 1868.They returned to England on the ship ‘Agamemnon’ in January 1873, never to return to Australia. Dr. Farrage died in 1877, and his wife Rebecca died on August 3, 1916, at Chippenham, Wiltshire.
