IDENTITY: Joseph Bishop, son of Joseph Bishop and Sarah Barnes. Born October 1805 in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire. Became a Master ironmonger and set up business in Market Place, Whittlesey. Married his first cousin Mary Ann Measures(who had been his housekeeper)a few days prior to leaving England for Melbourne on the ship 'South Carolina'.Established himself as a successful merchant in Melbourne. Mary Ann Bishop died in 1858, and in 1864 Joseph embarked on his second disastrous marriage to Fanny Jane Smith.The marriage was annulled in 1874, and Joseph died in Wagga Wagga NSW in 1877.
