Identity: Fanny Jane Smith, second daughter of Robert Smith of Emmett's Grange, Somerset, and his wife Rebecca Fairchild.Born in 1838 (baptised December 16, 1838, at Burley, Rutlandshire),she came out to Australia in the early 1860s. Her Uncle, Jesse Fairchild, was already in Melbourne( arrived 1841) and well established as a merchant.She was living with Jesse Fairchild at Yarra House, Simpsons Road, Richmond, at the time of her marriage on March 30, 1864 to Joseph Bishop.
